The colouration is chatoyant bright gold to rusty gold-red with banding of dark gray hematite. Golden tiger's eye has the quality of chatoyancy, meaning that as the stone is turned, it reflects light in glorious iridescent ways on its surface. The chatoyance is created by the fibrous structure of the stone, which gives it a definite grain structure.
